Important commentary from CAPRS co-founder and co-director Rez Gardi has been highlighted by the New Zealand Herald, where she addressed the UK government’s proposed new “tough measures” aimed at preventing people from seeking asylum.

She cautioned that restricting access to asylum does not deter people from moving, stating: “What we’ve seen over many years is that stopping people from accessing safety or accessing borders to seek asylum does not stop people from moving…It just means that they end up in more dangerous routes, or taking more dangerous risks to try to seek safety. It doesn’t stop people from trying, it just means that more people die in their attempt.”
